What we do and where we do it
Anyone who spends time out in the bush, for recreation or work, would benefit from one of our survival courses. They are designed to be suitable for all skill and experience levels, all ages and all backgrounds.
During your course, you will be issued with one of our Pocket Survival Kits, which you can use for the duration of the course. You will then learn the priorities for survival, gain experience in practising these, have our extremely well qualified instructors to guide you, and hopefully, have some fun. All our courses are run in the native bush land of Marlborough, a beautiful and rugged part of the country. We do this in order to give our course participants as realistic an experience as possible, out in the bush, away from everything.
Why choose us
Our philosophy revolves around providing an enjoyable, invaluable, practical and safe experience for our course participants, and we are able to do this through the experience and backgrounds of our instructors and course designers. We aim to teach self-reliance and build confidence through planned instruction and experiences. We believe this is what makes us different. Our courses can be altered to suit, in both duration and content, and can be designed specifically for youngsters or families, workmates or friends, even people who don’t yet know each other.
Our Core Values
Our core values are to ensure each individual learns something about themselves, is encouraged to grow and develop their awareness and self-reliance, and, most importantly, has fun.
We’ve found this philosophy results in greater personal effort, which in turn leads to greater personal achievement. We hope all of our learners leave our courses with a keen interest in the outdoors, the knowledge and skills to enjoy themselves out in our beautiful wilderness and a smile on their faces.
The Environment
Our New Zealand environment is the envy of the world, and we’d like to keep it that way. It is vital that individuals respect the environment they are in and do not interfere with any endangered flora or fauna. To that end, our initial safety brief covers any environmental issues our participants need to be aware of and this is reiterated at the close of the course with appropriate guidance on, for example, removing all rubbish, burying all human waste properly, and thoroughly extinguishing all fires.
Safety Stuff
Safety is, of course, our number one priority – after all, this is a core element in survival. All of our instructors are First Aid trained and we have full public liability insurance. We are currently undergoing assessment from Outdoors NZ for accreditation. If granted, we will be the only survival training provider in New Zealand with this industry quality mark.
With safety in mind, therefore, all our courses are drug and alcohol free. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions to this.
Our instructor/learner ratio is set at a maximum of 6:1, ensuring everyone can learn and develop their skills in a safe, productive environment. Throughout the course, our instructors monitor learners’ activity and provide guidance on safe practices. Our safety documents are available on request.
