This page covers, in detail, what to expect on our courses. If you would prefer more general information, including information on safety and our alcohol policy, please click here.
Currently, our courses are two days and one night long, beginning on Saturday morning and ending Sunday afternoon. This is to make sure you have enough time to learn and practise the skills necessary to survive in the outdoors. Of course, if you would like something different, for example, a taster course, then please contact us and we can arrange that for you.
The course content below describes the content of all of our 2 day 1 night courses. They are, however, suitable for all groups of people, including (but not restricted to):
- Families
- Workmates
- Friends
- Dad/Child Bonding
- Mum/Child Bonding
- Men Only
- Women Only
- Mixed Men and Women
- Couples
- Any other combination you require
In essence, while the content remains the same, the type and method of delivery will change and the level at which the instruction is pitched (For example, where there are children on the course, there will be competitions with prizes and the level of instruction will be appropriate to their age). The Priorities For Survival remain unchanged, whatever your purpose for being on the course, and as such, all courses will contain the following:
Course Content
Participants meet, at a pre-designated place, at 8.00am on Saturday morning and then drive together (along with your instructor) to the training area.
Instruction will begin at approximately 8.30am
- Initial safety brief, covering all necessary safety issues and the ‘do’s’ and don’ts .
- Kit check and Survival Tin issued.
The priorities for survival
- Protection – Danger, First Aid, Clothing, Shelter Building, Fire
- Location – Signalling, Communications, Position, Navigation
- Water – Need, Procurement, Purification, Preservation
- Food – Need, Procurement, Preparation, Preservation
In addition to these priorities, instruction and practise will include (if time allows):
- Knife skills
- Knots
- Making cordage
The above content will take you through to Sunday lunchtime, so after lunch, there will be an ‘EndEx’ where you will be set a challenge (that utilises your newly-acquired skills) and will have the remainder of the afternoon to meet that challenge.
The EndEx will finish at approximately 4pm, and that will signify the end of the course.
Course Costs
This depends entirely on how many are in your group. Clearly, the more there are, the cheaper it becomes. However, it is worth bearing in mind, the fewer there are on your course, the more individual attention you will receive.
All figures are per person, for 2 days and 1 night (as described above), and include all food and the use of a Pocket Survival Kit for the duration of the weekend.
